Hardwood adds natural beauty, warmth and character to a home. Adding hardwood to your home also adds value to your home. Choose from solid or engineered in a variety of species and finishes. It is an excellent choice for allergy sufferers, because wood floors won’t harbor dust, pollen & allergens. Hardwood floors are gentler on the feet and back, and therefore make a great choice in the kitchen for cooking enthusiasts. There are even “green” products available today. Look for products with the FSC label (Forest Stewardship Council). They come from forests that are harvested in a sustainable manner.
Some things to consider….
Width: Wider boards are increasingly gaining popularity. They will result in less lines and visually expand the space.
Finish: Matte and satin finishes are easier to maintain than glossy finishes.
Solid or Engineered: Solid consists of one-piece boards that can be sanded and refinished. They are sensitive to humidity & temperature changes, resulting in seasonal expansion and contraction. Engineered floors are multiple layers of wood assembled cross-grain at 90 degree angles. They are more dimensionally stable and won’t shrink or expand like a solid, but can only be refinished once or twice.
Species: Exotic woods are typically harder and more durable than domestic species and deliver a custom look. Scratches can be less visible because the color goes all the way through. Rather than fading, the color usually ambers or deepens with age.
Tips
-Window coverings/tinting will help protect floors from fading.

-Never wet mop. Never use vinegar or ammonia, only Manufacturer’s recommended cleaners.
-Place walk-off mats at entrance areas.
-Place protective pads under feet of tables & chairs.
-Regularly sweep or dust mop, microfiber ones are excellent. Vacuum with suction only.
